Edwin Blitch Honored with the Distinguished Service Award

Blitch

Edwin Blitch, DPM, FACFAS, will receive the 2014 ACFAS Distinguished Service Award at the upcoming Annual Scientific Conference in Orlando. This prestigious award- one of the College’s highest honors-is presented annually by the ACFAS Board of Directors to recognize long-term, behind-the-scenes volunteerism to the profession and the College. Blitch becomes the eleventh “unsung hero” to receive this award.

Blitch’s volunteer efforts with the College span nearly two decades, beginning right after he completed his residency. Blitch has served in many important ACFAS capacities, including chair of the Education and Scientific Affairs Committee and member of the Annual Scientific Conference Committee, the Professional Relations Committee, the Strategic Planning Committee, and the Nominations Committee.

“It’s easy in our profession to make a living, but it’s a lot tougher to make a difference, and ACFAS has been my outlet to do just that,” says Blitch. “The many wonderful things that the College does could never get done without volunteers to do them. “I’d like to thank the College for this great honor, and I humbly accept it in the spirit of volunteerism. I’d also like to give a special thanks to ACFAS staff for their guidance and support,” says Blitch.

He also pays tribute to a key figure in his training, who years ago sparked his interest in volunteerism. “Dr. Alan Catanzariti, my residency director, was a great mentor and he was adamant that his residents give back to the profession,” says Blitch.

ACFAS President Jordan P. Grossman, DPM, FACFAS, has high praise for Blitch and his record of giving back. “There are some members who serve in volunteer positions who really go above and beyond what they are asked to do. They serve on committees with significant distinction and Dr. Blitch has done just that,” says Grossman.

“I’m ecstatic that he’s getting this award,” continues Grossman. “Whether he’s chairing a committee or serving as a member, Dr. Blitch always comes prepared and does an outstanding job.”
