Austin Gutting, DPM

Graduating

Class of 2026

BIO

My name is Austin Gutting. I was born and raised in Findlay, Ohio. I received my undergraduate education from a small school in west Michigan called Hope College. An Achilles tendon rupture ended my collegiate basketball career early but introduced me to the world of foot and ankle surgery. After graduating from Hope College in 2018 I moved back home for a year to gain experience in the medical field and explore different specialties. After spending time with local foot and ankle surgeons, I determined it was the field for me.

I went on to receive my medical education from the College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery at Des Moines University in Des Moines, Iowa. While at Des Moines I was fortunate to earn induction into the Pi Delta National Podiatric Honor Society, an honor given to the top 25% of the class at each College of Podiatric Medicine across the nation. Additionally, I served as a teaching assistant for the Basic Surgical and Medical Skills course and Lower Limb Anatomy course.

As a fourth-year medical student starting rotations all over the country I had high expectations and West Penn not only met but exceeded all of them. The high volume of surgical cases, in-patient work, and dedication to clinic as well as the faculties commitment to leading one of top residencies highlight the reasons why West Penn was the best fit for me. I look forward to learning from some of the best foot and ankle surgeons in the country. It is an honor and privilege to join the West Penn family.
